El jugador de Poker / The poker player

(English below)

The other day I realized that poker has a lot in common with the way we initially see fear ... yes, poker. I will explain to you, one of the strategies of this game is called Bluffing: it is about making the opponent believe that you have good cards in hand and in this way make the contestant freak out and give up before seeing that you have no way to win. the match.

This makes you win many chips so that the opponent is left with less and you manage to manage the game. Now what does this have to do with fear and panic? We feel that fear behaves the same way as a bluffing player: he wants to have the full power of the game by winning our chips and he uses deception because he never really has the cards to actually win.

We believe that fear is against us and that his weapon is deception, making us believe that there is danger, although this is not the case, however, in reality, by fighting with him, what we achieve is creating conflict and mistrust within ourselves.

Fear is a primitive tool that helps us ensure survival but has always had a bad reputation, this creates the perfect environment for all kinds of conscious and unconscious strategies to try to eliminate it as obsessive thoughts, guilt, denial and more.

The peaceful answer is not there, fear does not deceive us, it just needs guidance and moderation. If we change our way of seeing fear or panic, we are not going to spend all our chips on an enemy that does not exist and that is how, not only will we win, but we will go beyond the game.

El virus de las creencias de miedo / The virus of fear Beliefs

(English below)

We are constantly exposed to millions of germs and bacteria, and if we are in the right conditions a virus can enter our system. So, at any time we can get a cold, upset stomach and others that people commonly carry without knowing, although many of them do know but hide it because it can be embarrassing.

But the virus that worries us most is the one that I don't know a single person who is not infected, it is with the poison of Beliefs of fear. I call it a virus because it behaves exactly like one: it searches for a guest to inhabit, spread throughout its system, and then move on to the next with just one contact, one word, one image. It behaves with the same intelligence as these organisms, each time seeking different strategies for their survival within us. Scrutinize every corner to get into, incubate and contaminate every healthy cell in our body.

Lately I have not been able to stop noticing the constant exposure we have towards this virus. If we analyze carefully, almost all the conversations we have are contaminated with fearsome words: "Did you see how bad the economy is?" "How bad is the country" "Did I tell you who has cancer now?" "I heard that eating this is bad for your health" "Life is very hard" "How complicated everything is" "Nothing is easy" ... and so I could cite many more expressions to which we are exposed every day.

Now let's add the terrible scenes with which we are bombarded in the news, the parade of announcements all about avoiding germs and diseases, and as always, the films that record terrifying scenes in our heads, situations that may never happen, but as now they make them more and more real, we can no longer get them out of our minds.

If we want to be free of these beliefs, we will have to start by changing all these aspects: the conversations and expressions that we use in our daily lives, the programs that we watch and the movies that we choose for "a time of rest" because our bodies do not have sense of humor and all this is recorded in it as if it were true, as if it were really happening. And then we wonder why we are the way we are, full of anxiety and negativity.

But the most important thing to maintain a good emotional health is to have an immune system that can repel any attack of the virus and that preventive measure is called Faith !. That's right, Faith is the only thing that keeps our body strong and does not allow the entry of beliefs that we do not need, for this reason it is that a daily glass of Faith must be taken to keep the system in optimal condition.

Now, sometimes the defenses are lowered a little and the virus manages to enter, in that case, you must take twice the dose and repeat until the virus comes out completely. Treatment should never be interrupted, or beliefs will stay longer.

Our body knows how to heal, our natural state is of peace and confidence, so we can be sure that no belief can harm us, but if we allow it, it will give us a hard time.

Let us take all precautions to prevent our system from becoming infected, avoid "contaminated" people or places as much as possible ... but more importantly, keep our defenses strong and vigilant!

Trabajo en equipo: Adulto-niño / Teamwork: Adult-child

(English below)

As a professional focused on panic attacks, I am increasingly convinced of the importance of forming an adult within us.

The adult is the part of us that thinks rationally, makes decisions, deals with situations, uses logic, comforts, absorbs new information and uses it at the right time and place. He is also the mediator between duty (father) and pleasure (child) applying rules and limits in a balanced and loving way.

The inner child is all our emotions and desires: joy, anger, fear, sadness and all its derivatives and combinations. Illusions, dreams and fantasies are also part of the child.

During our childhood and adolescence we form an adult who is ready to function perfectly at the entrance of adulthood. However, for various reasons, in some cases, they have to jump onto the scene sooner than expected and the child is relegated. In others, an external adult takes care of everything and does not allow the person's to fully develop.

Whether the adult developed or not, we are faced with a society that does not promote the proper functioning of the adult: they do not teach us to do child-adult teamwork. We walk through life, either, being excellent professionals, making decisions, agreements and our emotional life is "forgotten"; at the other extreme without an adult, we are raw emotions without feet or heads and always looking for someone to take care of us. In neither case there is balance and this leaves the perfect ground for the seed of panic to grow.

Balance is found when we manage to have both a child and an adult, but working as a team so that the latter manages emotions instead of emotions managing us.

An example that I always use with my patients is the following: imagine that you are going down the street with a 3-year-old child, suddenly the infant looks at you with eyes of fright and embarrassment and says: I pooped my pants. In the first scenario where we have an adult-father, he would scold him, ask him why he did not warned us before, he could even grumble and claim why he has not learned to go to the bathroom “correctly”. How would a child feel when this happens to them, being scolded and yelled aton top of the "accident"? 2nd scenario, an untrained adult, runs off and leaves the child alone, feeling shame, fright, abandonment, rejection ... in both cases we will have despair and abandonment.

In the scenario of a loving adult, the latter, realizing the surprise situation, quickly looks for a bathroom, at the same time comforting the child, explaining that everything has a solution and that everything is ok. The adult changes the child's pants and once he/she is calm, the adult explains what he/she has to do, so that the same situation does not happen in the future.

That is what I call teamwork between adult and child, reason and emotions. If we can find that balance between the two, we will have a healthy inner child, with rules and with pleasures, with tools and with comfort. This is the most important relationship in our lives, and the result: Harmony.
