Bestias Hermosas / Beautiful Beasts

(English below)

I remember the days when traveling was my greatest illusion, packing the suitcase, the expectation of the days before. I remember the sounds and the sensation of walking through the long corridors of airports, I remember the smell of the plane, being able to be on the other side of the world in a few hours. The feeling of having left my country and having entered a dream. It was magical.

I also remember when traveling was my worst nightmare. When the very idea of going outside terrified me, when getting on a bus meant feeling constant despair. I remember when I thought that I would never be able to go for a walk, enjoy with my family, or be like my friends.

I remember all of that very well.

And remembering it is what gave me back my wings today. When I connected again with that girl who was excited only by the idea of packing, I connected with that part of me that is not afraid, with that part that likes speed, that part of me that likes new things, that wants to take photos of beautiful places and who wants to create more memories like that.

I remembered how to fly.

Today, every time I see a plane, I have the deepest appreciation for them, they are really beautiful beasts. They have the strength and nobility of a steed; and at the same time, the ability to float amid the cotton candy clouds. They have the ability to carry loads, hearts and souls to reunite with their loved ones or with their greatest dreams. They have the ability to defy time, reverse or advance the hands of the clock. They have the strength to glide amid snow, water, air, and stars.

Beautiful Beasts indeed.

Every time I have the opportunity, I recognize his greatness and his nobility; I thank such an incredible machine, for taking me far and near, for being able to carry me with all my weight and still transport me so high without problem. Over time, I let myself go a little more and more, knowing that a greater force supports me at all times, in this case, it is shaped like wings, wheels and motors.

They really are Beautiful Beasts.

Sentada con Todas Mis Partes / Sitting with all my parts

(English below)

A long time ago I thought that it was only about me, then I found out that there was a little one inside and I began to know her; however, over time others and others began to appear, more and more and more. One day I saw myself sitting next to 9 children: some excited, others silent, some coloring, others listening to music and humming, and one in particular who was scared. All in a space of less than 3 square meters.

If this scene had appeared to me some time ago, I probably would have ignored it or even been bothered by the noise they were making; but this time, I saw in each of them all my inner children: some excited, others silent, others listening to music and singing, others making noise; Silently I watched all their expressions, their gestures, their words.

My attention was focused on one of them who could be 10 or 11 years old and was quite scared, trying to hide her tears but for me it was evident. She was without her family, handling her emotions completely alone at the time. I decided to just watch her and try to convey the compassion I was feeling for her; As I did this I was filled with a feeling of love and peace that took away any worry or fear that I might feel at the time.

I didn't want to say anything to her, touch her, or try to reassure her, I just wanted to send her the message that was there for her no matter what her emotional state was. That I was going to be present during her fear, her crying, her worry; it was all I could offer him: a safe space where hes emotions were going to be received and contained. As the minutes passed I saw that she had stopped crying, then she stopped being scared and at one point he looked at me and smiled at me, I smiled at her back. I took my eyes off for a few minutes and then when I returned to her, I noticed that she had fallen asleep, I turned around and did the same. We were both calm.

The rest of the time I was with her I kept observing her from time to time, as if to tell her that I was still there with her. I saw her laugh, play and sing with her friends, she was completely comfortable where she was. Occasionally he would look at me and we would smile at each other; She wasn't scared again, neither she nor I.

Miedo al miedo / Fear of fear

(English below)

          a

All cases of Anxiety and Panic Attacks are different, the symptoms are unique to each individual, however, in some, especially long-standing ones, what people express as fear of fear can develop.

This piece comes where we already know that we are not going to die, that the symptoms are only alarms, that are real, but not true; but at this point some of us already know how awkward and ugly it can be to have the feeling of fear running through your body, manipulating your breath, playing with your thoughts, and an aversion to just those feelings can develop.

I fully understand his fear of fear, of course NO ONE wants to feel all those reactions, or lose control in a place where there is little containment or resources like on an airplane, however, the only way I have found until now to pass this stage is to surrender to this fear and continue; just as you read it, surrender and continue.

Accept fear. This step can be paradoxically very liberating, while resisting will create more tension and as the psychologist Carl Jung said it well “what you resist, persists; And the doctor doesn't say it in a bad way, but because the more we resist, the more power we give it, and the fears, as we already know, are basically smoke screens, which when crossing, they disappear like a cloud of cotton candy; when we got out the other side we always say: and why did I worry so much? Was this what you feared so much? And yet it takes us every time.

Continue. Because it is the only way for the brain to rewrite history, to make a new association instead of:

- This time this happened to me and this and I lost control

          to

- Look how funny, nothing is happening this time.

And this must happen many times, and the more often the better, because it is the brain that will not let that difficult episode go so easily, and it is not because it does not like us, quite the contrary, it is because it wants to protect us so much that remembers it vividly so that it does not happen again. So it is our task to show it over and over again, that it will NEVER be repeated in the same way, nothing in this life happens exactly the same, because, even if we experience fear again, we are not the same person from the first time, with work, we have gained more tools and experience, therefore it is impossible for that episode to be repeated as we remember it.

Fear of fear is normal within the path of Panic Attacks, it is a reaction of survival and of wanting to continue in life, and although I know that these steps are simple but difficult to execute, try, and try every time. Take your fear hand in hand, with all the feelings it brings, do not judge it, you are doing what you can, what you know how to do; But yes, I ask you to make a space within all that momentary madness, go inside, ang try to go the whole way with an internal smile.

Lo Que Hace Mi Corazón Cantar / What makes my Heart Sing

(English below)

This stage of my life I call it: doing what makes my heart sing.

When I was little I dreamed of so many things, I loved everything that had to do with art: singing, dancing, acting; and I saw myself growing up being a well-known artist, with concerts and movies.

But one grows up, and suddenly realizes that nobody "discovered" me when I was walking through the mall, or that my feet are not correct for dancing and the injuries are many; and the dream slowly begins to die. However, the time I did it was one of the most beautiful times of my life, of which I remember having spent more joys despite muscle aches and tiredness.

When I had to leave the art was when I had to go to the city to study, coincidentally it was the time when my panic attacks also began, now, I can't say that was the cause, there were many reasons why my anxiety exploded, but without a doubt having stopped exercising and leaving something that filled me so much did not help in that hard transition I went through.

More than a decade later, I still dreamed of training, choreographies and nervousness with all my colleagues before going on stage. They were almost recurring dreams one might say. As if a part of me still wanted to live that world.

This year I had the opportunity to return, and not only return to art, but with the same colleagues, with the same teacher and with all the parts of my body working, bad feet and everything. Great! Even though so much time has passed and I find it hard to do certain things, my body and mind remember, it's like when you learn to ride a bicycle. But beyond the movements, it is the feeling of being there, listening to the music and moving with it. It is like life returns, like the heart beats again.

For each one of us it is something different, each one has something that we're passionate about and can even be various things; There are people who are passionate about cooking, others who love to learn, others who like to serve others through therapy, there will be people who feel inspired by cars, or building, assembling legos... For me passion is everything that distracts us from the past or the future and keeps us in the present moment, everything we can do without receiving pay and for hours almost non-stop, that which leads us to make sacrifices because for us it is worth pain. That is passion for me.

If each one of us could dedicate a little of time to do something that we're is passionate about, or better yet, turn a passion into a way of life, into a profession… ahhh that's life!

The moment you find and practice that makes your heart "sing", fear, sadness and anger will no longer have space, at least at that moment, because they will be in harmony with something they love, with the present moment, and in the present there is no death, only life.

El Vuelo del Amor / The flight of love

(English below)

No me quedo ahí.

I thank life, my guides, my parents, the lessons I have lived, the people who have loved me. I appreciate the difficult moments and the tests, because I am where I am, and I am what I am; with all that that means: what I have achieved and what I lack.

Being in a test at this time, made me realize many things: first I am very blessed, because I have been given a "mattress" underneath, and I've been taken wrapped in feathers, through the dark times just as always.

Also because I realized what gives me strength and what takes it away. And what has given me the most strength is LOVE: and in thit moment of tribulation it was specifically love for someone. Imagining that person in their bed resting fills me with courage, imagining their breathing, their details, their sweetness; and the more I gave myself to that image, the more I felt a pleasant heat that ran through my body. However, I didn't want to stop there, and I said to myself: how about love for myself? And as I try I feel the spark of calmness, but it's not strong enough ... yet. It starts, but the smallest breeze puts it off.

I feel that if we manage at some point in our lives, even for moments, to feel unconditional love for everything and everyone, there will be no room for fear. If we even manage to make that love wrap up fear, with the intention of loving fear, because if our idea is to love to avoid fear, we will be falling into the same thing; but by loving even the very fear, there is nothing left but peace.

I don't  wanto to stop here. I know it is the next step, and the safe step. Little by little I will succeed. I will be able to sustain myself with my own love, the one that goes out and the one that returns to me. And here I am, contemplating all this. Even if I am just starting, here I am and less road lies ahead.

El Perro Amarrado / The tied up dog

(English below)

Our mind is incredibly powerful, it is a part that I often like to compare with a car engine: some with more acceleration than others, and if we do not know how to handle it correctly, it can take us very fast.

However today, I was presented with the image of a tethered dog. I saw a Rottweiler barking and barking nonstop, pulling on the chain that held it; and how we throw a piece of meat at him from time to time to shut him up, to have a few minutes of peace and silence.

That metaphor came to me when I was listening to someone repeatedly asking me to give him a reason, the logic to understand something; and in some moments I have, I try to mold the answer in a way that the mind understands and remains calm; but today I felt: if I keep giving meat to this creature, it will be a solution, but it is not sustainable.

And we have all found ourselves in those moments where the mind does not leave us alone, it barks and barks for hours, it stuns us and we end up drained and angry against it. The more we yell at the dog to be quiet, the more it will bark, and throwing bits of reason and logic at it from time to time helps, but not forever.

One of the phrases that marked a change in my meditative practice was to hear that the mind never stops thinking, why? Because it is its nature, it is what it is made for; and it does it well, but we have been bad “owners” and we have left it abandoned and without training, therefore, it has learned to bark and bark without stopping, especially when there is anxiety and a feeling that I must always be alert and defensive , like that poor Rottweiler.

How to tame that beast then? The first step is always compassion, just as we apply love to all our parts. A dog that barks and wants to attack (us) is because deep down he is afraid. Perhaps he was attacked in the past, perhaps he feels that at any moment he will be attacked again, and also, his current owner always keeps him tied up and only throws a bite from time to time to silence him. How can that dog be calm? This is where compassion comes in, trying to understand where that fear that causes the insistence of thoughts comes from, looking further until you reach that pain; and from there begin to love that poor dog.

Once this step is achieved, we can establish trust, yes, trust in our own mind, and that in turn begins to trust us. A dog can also be protection, guide, company, and his barking at the right times can be very helpful. In the same way, our mind is a great tool that can take us very far as that motor that I talked about at the beginning, but without the correct training it will be nothing more than torture for both the owner and the tired animal.

When we have already gained his trust, we can go over and pet the dog, begin training him to walk beside us, instead of always pulling on the leash, so that he sits down and lies down calmly while we work or meditate; and of course, let us know when something is wrong.

There is no reason to fight with our Rottweiler-mind, we just have to understand it and trust its purpose. If we can do this we will have a loyal friend for life.

Mi experiencia en un Temazcal / My experience in a Temazcal

(English below)

NO SIENTO MIEDO!

A few weeks ago, I heard for the first time about Tata Kachora, a native Yaqui who lives in the mountains before arriving in the town of Tecate, Baja California. They told me about his 103-year-old wise man and how he still keeps the customs of his people alive.

Interesting I said to myself, and I let it pass, although the seed had already been planted in me.

One morning, if I was looking for anything in particular, I found a name of Tata again on the internet, and not only that, I was talking about the temazcal (sweat lodge) ceremony that would take place in two days for the full moon. At that moment I knew that the time had come to meet the famous Yaqui.

After investigating a little more about him, I realize that his real name is Juan, excuse me, Don Juan, the same Carlos Castañeda's Don Juan ... that's right, this was Carlos Castañeda's teacher. At this point there was no going back, I had to go.

At kilometer 13 exactly, where an oak tree stands, there is the detour of the road. From there a couple of more kilometers between dogs and dust comes Tata's house. Our car, although it is short and hybrid, manages to arrive without major problem.

A two-storey hut-shaped house in the Alps welcomes us. When we got off we asked once for Tata, who was sitting under the shade of a medicinal tree doing what he likes the most: telling stories.

There, among playing dogs and first-time visitors he tells us about the hardships of his birth there in the mountains in the state of Sonora, the 4 wives he has had to bury and the 43 children he had (two already deceased). Then he shifts to talk about the thousands of medicinal plants he knows and uses with his "patients", and finally, he goes on to the question and answer mode where he tells us what is the secret of living a long life (not smoking, not drinking, eating everything but in moderation, except pork and walking, walking a lot) also what is the secret for a succesful romantic partnership (to share everything) and he tells us that he is gradually writing his book on medicinal plants.

While all this is happening, his students gradually arrive and go directly to work at the bottom of the property, where the dome for the temazcal is erected. The structure is built on a hole that was previously made in the earth, this is made of tied branches in which layers and layers of fabrics go above. Once this task is completed, the sacred fire begins: a campfire where the stones that go in the hole within the temazcal are going to be heated. It takes several hours to turn red, as people with fruits to share and sacred herbs to offer to the fire, approach.

At nightfall, the participants begin to line up: women first, all with long skirts and covered shoulders and also no person can enter on her moon (menstrual period); then the men: all shirtless and in shorts. At the entrance to the dome, each one is smudged with medicinal plants and charcoal from the sacred fire, they take a handful of dry cypress and throw into the fire along with an intention.

You must go in crawling and enter on a clockwise way aruont the fire, filling the bottom of the dome first. "First-timers well glued to the wall", they say, because the hot steam does not hit so strongly there. Everyone in squatting position, prepares for the experience. Some nervous laughter is heard in various parts. They put each red heat stone, one by one, until they are 10 in the hole and close the entrance with a blanket. The leader explains that 20-minute rounds are coming with songs and timelines, at the end of each round the door opens and the hole is loaded with more stones. This happens four times.

As I sat at the bottom of the temazcal I kept thinking: what am I doing here? I can leave right now, yes I can leave, nobody stops me ... but for some reason I wanted to stay. The woman next to me asks me if it is my first time, to which I answer yes, she indicates that if I feel that I need fresh air I can put my face on the ground and let the cold earth soothe me. The door is closed and total visibility is lost, the drums and aboriginal songs learned by the disciples begin while water mixed with herbs is poured on the incandescent stones.

I start to breathe between my legs and I feel… I feel… I don't feel fear! I DON'T FEEL FEAR! My claustrophobic days didn't even show their nose in that moment. It was there that I began to repeat myself: I am brave! Yes I am brave! I always thought I was fearful person but I'm actually brave! I am stuck in a hot dome with 40 people all glued together, without the ability to move much and about 3 meters from the exit between bodies and darkness: I am really brave!

Laughter mixed with tears of happiness began to come out, and there I began to feel: I felt love, love for everything and everyone. That is what is behind fear: Love!

The first round ends, they carry in more stones, then close the curtain, pour more water, start more songs and prayers and I begin to realize that none of all the women of my lineage were fearful, they were all brave with me in that moment: Aho!

The curtain opens, I crawl out again, I thank the temazcal, its people, the fire. I look up and the sky is clear, full of stars. I fell like a burden has disappeared from my shoulders, I did it! I feel good, I feel full and full of love to share.
